Healthcare on Wheels: Reaching Mining Communities in Remote Areas
A network of mobile health units is bringing essential medical services to artisanal mining communities in some of Africa's most remote regions, dramatically improving health outcomes for miners and their families.
Comprehensive Services
The units provide everything from basic primary care to specialized occupational health services, including:
- Mercury exposure screening and treatment
- Respiratory disease prevention and care
- Maternal and child health services
- HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment
- Occupational safety training
"Before the mobile clinics came, many miners suffered from preventable diseases," says community health worker Fatoumata Bangura. "Now they receive regular check-ups and early treatment."
